Introduces management, marketing, financial and legal principles regarding sport facilities, events and organizations within interscholastic, intercollegiate, professional and international sport industries. The conduct of amateur and professional sport programs.


Course Goals

This course is designed to: 

  1. Introduce students to the structure, scope, and significance of the global sport industry 
  2. Explore the foundation principles of sport management, including management, marketing, finance, sociology, and law, as they apply to sport organizations, facilities, and events 
  3. Familiarize students with the major segments and career pathways within sport management, including youth, interscholastic, intercollegiate, professional, and international sport organizations 
  4. Prepare students for advanced study in sport management by establishing a common conceptual foundation upon which upper-level coursework and experiential learning can build
